Over the month of September, 7 teams within Accountancy Insurance stepped up their fitness to raise funds to support people living with cerebral palsy (CP) across Australia. Run by Cerebral Palsy Alliance, the Steptember charity event challenges people to take 10,000 steps a day for 28 days straight.

All Australian Accountancy Insurance offices have generously donated their time over various organised days to assist Foodbank.

Foodbank is the largest hunger relief organisation in Australia. It has a national presence, with distribution centres in six states, the NT and eight regional centres. Foodbank distribute 19 million kilos of donated food a year, the equivalent of over 25 million meals which will help feed over 70,000 people every day.

AI’s involvement included making a trip to respective warehouses across Australia to be on the front line of sorting and arranging food packages for those in need.

 MND and Me

 MND and Me Pool

On Friday 28th February 2014 the Brisbane AI team attended the MND and Me Million Metres Swimming Carnival. The MND and Me Foundation is a not for profit organisation that was formed to raise awareness of Motor Neurone Disease (MND) and its impact in the community.

With the cheering of the Brisbane office behind her, team member Devica Dhamardi represented AI in the 50m corporate race, and as the only female swimmer, she powered through the pool with a fantastic swim. Olympic medallist and Order of Australia recipient, Duncan Armstrong, volunteered his time and expertise in order to raise awareness of the debilitating disease. More than $16,000 was raised on the night which will directly contribute towards employing more people to assist those living with Motor Neurone Disease.

 Wesley Mission Victoria

As part of Accountancy Insurance’s ongoing commitment to helping our local communities, the Melbourne office has signed up for volunteering duties with Wesley Mission Victoria.

Wesley Mission's work is based on a concern for people in need, particularly those who are abused, addicted, homeless or impoverished.

Nearly every staff member from the Melbourne office has participated in helping the Mission with its Food For Families appeal by packaging up donated food and household supplies for families in need over the Christmas period. In addition, various employees collect supplies throughout November and December from a delegated point of collection - IGA (South Melbourne) - and delivering the goods to Wesley head quarters in the CBD. ADA obtains, trains and maintains dogs in community settings to assist people with their disabilities, to give them more confidence and to help them achieve a greater level of independence.

Pam Pratt, who works in our Sydney office and is our ‘go to’ person for Claims and Customer Service, is deeply involved with Assistance Dogs Australia, including training these puppies. She would be delighted to speak to you about how you can help ADA to expand their ability to supply puppies to disabled people.
